Dawn at the Phyllis Haehnle Sanctuary
The Phyllis Haehnle Sanctuary in Jackson, Michigan is a prime staging ground for Sandhills gathering for the fall migration.
"Not a morning person" doesn't begin to describe it, but I did manage to get up early enough to witness a sunrise that looked like an atomic bomb explosion. The cranes fly out of the sanctuary in the morning to feed and relax throughout the day.
