In the spring and summer of 2015 I followed a Sandhill Crane family. The parents arrived in March and the colts (sandhill babies) hatched in early April. The parents were heroic in their determination to keep the colts alive. They defended against giant snappers (head to head, point blank in the water), foxes, and more. They are quot;all in,quot; as one photographer put it.br/ br/The colts made it to adulthood and the family flew off in the fall migration.
